Estate Planning Attorneys that understand protecting family and legacy

Experienced in customizing the estate planning needs of North Carolina families

Why You Need an Estate Plan

Regardless of your income, estate planning is an essential part of your financial plan. We call it a plan for a reason – you are putting yourself in control of your legacy, protecting your assets, and gaining security and privacy. Let us show you how the right planning tools can help you go through each stage of life with confidence about the future.

If you die without a will while living in the state of North Carolina, did you know that state law has already decided how your property will be handed out when you die? That’s right – and it may not match up at all with your wishes. In fact, you might be pretty surprised to find out that what most people expect will happen is not at all what happens in reality, and the loved ones they want taken care of when they die can sometimes end up getting little or none of their estate.

If you would like to learn more about how your estate would be handled if you were to die without a will, or if you are ready to take control of your estate and begin the planning process, give us a call today to meet with one of our estate planning attorneys.

What to expect working with Dixon Law Firm estate planning attorneys.

We understand that planning your estate can sometimes happen at a time when you are not able to travel to our office. Please let us know your individual needs, and if you are not physically able to travel, we will do our best to come to wherever you are, whether it is a hospital, nursing home, bedside, or your dining room table.

If you haven’t updated your estate plan in many years, or if your circumstances have changed significantly since the last time you created your estate plan, we will work with you to modify or update your estate plan to fit your current needs.

How long does it take to make an estate plan?

We offer a one week turnaround on all of our estate plans, done through two meetings. At the first meeting, we will discuss all of your information with you, review any documents you have brought, and develop your estate plan. One week later, you will have a second meeting to review and sign your documents. We also offer a remote option if you are unable to come in person, and we have access to a network of remote notaries who can assist with your signing process.

What does an estate plan include?

There is no one size fits all for estate planning, but our Estate Plan Foundation Packages are built with the basic planning needs of the majority of our clients in mind. If you have a more unique situation, like running a family business, taking care of an aging family member, have a family member with special needs, are concerned about planning for long-term health care, or have one of countless other concerns, we will work with you to build upon the basic planning tools, tailoring your estate plan to fit your specific needs.

How can an attorney help with your estate planning?

Some aspects of estate planning can seem complex, but we can make things simple for you to understand by giving you the tools and resources you need to stay informed about the process. See our Estate Planning Guidebook for more information. We may also be able to point out potential problems in your estate plan, or help you to see things you may not have considered when creating your estate plan.
